Algiz is the fifteenth rune of the Elder Futhark. It connects the two worlds of life and death through the rainbow bridge. The symbol of the rune is interpreted in various ways, but all agree on its essential nature: Algiz is the rune of protection against external forces.
Algiz represents protection and life. It symbolizes the moment of birth or death. Representing the imprint of a raven’s foot, Algiz is associated with ravens.
Algiz means a clear warning: do not go further to avoid bad things. Algiz bridges the gap between the human and the divine. It is important for seekers to prepare for enlightenment.
For the future, it means that selfish goals should not be pursued because failure is already programmed. If one does not want to fail, one must also think of the people around them.
According to one interpretation, the symbol of the rune forms the imprint of a raven’s foot, which would be Huginn’s, Odin’s raven. The imprint of such a bird, considered important, was thought to hold great power by the people of that time. Another interpretation sees the sign as a defensive hand with spread fingers:
This refers to Heimdall, the guardian of the rainbow bridge, who watches over the boundaries between the worlds. Son of the Valkyries, he is known for his Gjallarhorn, but his sword (symbol of the trident) is just as important, and can be used for attack or defense depending on the situation.
In the physical world, Algiz acts as a protective weapon, like a sword protecting with its sharp blade. In the spiritual world, Algiz represents faith in the gods and what lies beyond our five physical senses.
The rune Algiz symbolizes elk antlers, a powerful totem animal in the world of Norse gods. As a talisman, the rune Algiz promises protection and helps build strong defenses.
The protective energy of the Algiz rune also has a favorable effect on relationships with others: positive attitudes are transmitted to the environment. Good moods are contagious! In partnerships, security and harmony prevail, as Algiz allows partners to open up to each other and clearly understand the other's needs.
The rune Algiz also represents “peace” and is immediately noticeable: the symbol of the modern peace sign is the circle containing the rune Algiz. This protective symbol is closely linked to the Valkyries, those legendary female figures who gave strength and protection to the courageous heroes of Norse mythology. They made the link between Odin and his chosen Aesir.
The rune Algiz has a complex meaning, making it sometimes difficult to interpret in a reading. The ancient Germanic word “Algiz” means protection. The second name for the rune Algiz is Elhaz, also Eohl, which means elk. This ancient symbolic form recalls the large antlers of this Nordic animal.
The first representation shows an image of the symbol inverted vertically. The image of the rune then represents the world tree Yggdrasil, whose branches extend towards the sky and whose roots are anchored in the earth.
The rune Algiz thus forms the link between the gods and humans. Eihwaz or Algiz represents the energy between human consciousness and the world of the gods. It allows people to seek dialogue with higher planes at any time through their inner senses.
Algiz, in a way, asks you to listen to your instinct to make the right decision suited to the situation. In modern times, rational people have cut the link with higher intuitions.
Only statistics, stock market prices, and scientifically proven facts matter. People think they possess an order or predictability of various factors. If the inner voice still expresses itself, it is usually not taken seriously.
The rune asks you to delve into a higher level of consciousness, as every living being on earth is part of a whole. The elk antlers are understood as an antenna that captures all the vibrations of other living beings in the environment – it senses when something is wrong.
And not only that: to succeed in defending itself, it requires an instant reaction that ensures the animal's survival in nature. When the herd leader springs into action, the entire group follows, which, in the sense of Algiz, means that an individual protects their collective from danger.
Algiz announces that in the future, fate will take a favorable turn. Trust your instinct; you are right in this matter. During this phase, you will receive support from your circle of friends. Algiz often intervenes when you are offered an opportunity.
Accept it, as the result will be positive and profitable. In a reading, evaluate the surrounding runes, which indicate the nature of this opportunity. If adversity threatens, you will probably receive a warning in time to avoid or at least mitigate the damage.
Trust your intuition and act accordingly. Algiz is a powerful ally that will help you take the right path during difficult times. You can pursue risky projects on your own, but their foundation must be solid. Consider the profits without succumbing to recklessness, and in any case, do not underestimate your competitors.
If Algiz is reversed, it can indicate vulnerability. You may need to give up something without receiving anything in return. Caution is advised, as someone might deliberately give you bad advice or attempt to harm you in another way.
We strongly advise against abusing your knowledge to harm others without reason or to gain unfair personal advantages. Before acting, you must question the set goal regarding its legitimacy and significance.
Prepare yourself well mentally and physically before pursuing your project. Seek other opinions before committing by signing a contract. New friends may have hidden intentions and use you for their own purposes.
Similarly, a sudden illness can be seen as a warning sign from Algiz, preventing you from continuing on the path you have chosen. In matters of relationships, proceed with caution and first learn about the motivations and character of the person concerned.
